Michael H. Coden
Michael Coden is President and Chief Executive Officer of magjic.com LLC.  In addition to magjic, Michael has founded three high technology companies, taken one public, sold one and one is still operating independently. He has also led turnarounds, as CEO or Vice President of two technology companies founded by other technology entrepreneurs.  Michael is currently engaged as Vice President of NextNine Inc., a service automation software company, which he helped to turnaround.  Michael serves as an Advisor to SAS Investors, a seed- and early-stage technology venture fund backed by Canaan Partners, Rho Capital Partners, and Sevin Rosen Funds (three of the country's largest and most prominent venture capital firms), as well as CEO of Magjic LLC, which provides consulting services to technology companies.

Prior to assuming his duties as President of NextNine, a leading service automation enterprise software company, Michael led a turnaround as Interim President and CEO of Digital Fairway Corporation, a leading developer of OSS and B/OSS operational support systems software. Mr. Coden rescued Digital Fairway from insolvency, helping to close a $2.5 million angel round of financing, arranging for $600,000 in R&D funding and closing $7.5 million in new sales. He trimmed the expense run rate by 30% to $400,000 per month, reorganized the management structure, instituted financial controls and built a world class sales organization.

Prior to Digital Fairway, Mr. Coden was President and CEO of Intraclub Communications, a leading provider of self-updating secure web hosted Intranets to small/medium organizations, based on software technology he helped pioneer.

Previously Mr. Coden was Vice President of Marketing and Technology at ADC Telecommunications Broadband Communication Systems Division.  He was simultaneously President & CEO of Codenoll Technology Corporation which he formed in 1980, and which was acquired by ADC in 1996. ADC is a leading supplier of fiber optic network systems to the CATV, and Telecommunications markets. Codenoll developed and manufactured data transmission and computer networking hardware and software products for ADC that are used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), CATV system operators, telephone companies, government, military and commercial organizations. Mr. Coden founded Codenoll, took Codenoll public and subsequently sold it to ADC Telecommunications, Inc. Codenoll also manufactured opto-electronic semiconductor components such as semiconductor Lasers, LEDs and Photo-detectors. Mr. Coden is the inventor of ADC and Codenoll’s two flagship products: EtherRing™ and CodeNet®. EtherRing is used by virtually every major CATV operator and telephone company for Internet (ISP), MPEG video, distance learning, tele-medicine, commercial ad-insertion and data transport. CodeNet Fiber Optic Ethernet is used in publishing, advertising, process control, financial trading, on virtually every US Air Force and Navy base and ship.

Prior to founding Codenoll, Mr. Coden served as Division Manager and Program Manager of Exxon Enterprises, Inc. from 1975 through 1979. During his tenure there, he was responsible for making investments in high technology companies as well as assisting the management of those companies. He founded and managed Optical Information Systems (OIS), a manufacturer of Semiconductor Lasers and one of the most financially successful high technology ventures in the Exxon portfolio.

From 1972 to 1975, Mr. Coden served as Vice President of Data Services for Maher Terminals Inc., the largest independent, stevedoring company in the Port of New York. He was responsible for computerizing 23 container shipping terminals throughout North America and all financial and operational activities of Maher’s 21 subsidiaries. The automated ship loading and container tracking software systems developed by Mr. Coden enabled the container ship companies using Maher’s facilities to save millions of dollars monthly and Maher to grow 4 fold, in 4 years.

Mr. Coden served in numerous management positions at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1969 to 1972. During his tenure there his engineering responsibilities included the design of Digital’s first multi-processor computer system and the design of Digital’s first multi-tasking operating system (RSX, which is still in use today). In his marketing responsibilities, he developed and implemented Digital’s entry into the real time operating system, commercial database, and health care markets. In his sales responsibilities, he supervised Digital’s medium scale computer sales force in Europe and the Middle East from 1970 to 1971, generating 10% of Digital’s worldwide sales in 1971.

Mr. Coden has a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University and a Masters Degree in Mathematics from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.

Mr. Coden has appeared on two science programs on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), briefed the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Armed Forces, has taught computer science at Columbia University Graduate School of Business and semiconductor physics at Fairleigh-Dickinson University.

Mr. Coden has received an Award of Merit from the American Chemical Society and an Award of Merit from the Laser Institute of America. He has published a book, “Fiber Optic and Local Area Networking” which has 100,000 copies in print. He has presented more than 120 papers (approximately 55 of which have been published) in Internet data transport, digital video technology, CATV networks, computer science, local area networks, fiber optics, electro-optical technology and high technology management. He has obtained 14 patents in network transmission protocols, LAN, data, and fiber optic technologies, some of which are used in IEEE and ISO international standards.

Mr. Coden has been a Vice-Chairman of the Business Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He is a member of the MIT Council for the Arts, and Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee for the List Visual Arts Center, a major modern art museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, a senior member of IEEE, has been a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Computers and Communications, a member of the Society of Cable Television Engineers, a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honorary Society and other professional societies. Mr. Coden is listed in American Men and Women of Science, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Business and Finance, International Business Men's Who's Who and Men of Achievement.
